How it works
- 1
Add your PDF. Every page is checked for its reading direction, right in your browser.
- 2
Look at the thumbnails: pages that were sideways or upside-down are shown already turned upright, with a label saying what changed.
- 3
Fix any page the tool got wrong with the turn-left and turn-right buttons, or tick the option to include pages it wasn't sure about.
- 4
Save the PDF. Only the pages marked for turning are changed; everything else is left exactly as it was.
Auto-Rotate PDF Pages — frequently asked questions
- Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
- No. The pages are read and analysed inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is nothing for us to store or delete.
- How does it know which way is up?
- If the page has selectable text, it reads which direction the letters run. For scans and photos of pages it looks at how the lines of text are laid out and whether the tall letters sit above the line or below it.
- Which pages does it handle best?
- Pages of ordinary printed text in the Latin alphabet, including accented European languages. Pages with mostly pictures, handwriting, tables of numbers or other scripts may come back as not sure.
- What does 'not sure' mean?
- The tool couldn't find enough readable text to be confident, so it leaves that page alone by default. You can turn it yourself with the buttons under the page, or include the guesses with the option above the thumbnails.
- Does turning a page reduce quality?
- No. The page is rotated by changing its orientation setting; nothing is re-drawn or re-compressed, so text stays sharp and selectable.
- How is this different from Rotate PDF?
- Rotate PDF turns the pages you choose by an angle you pick. Auto-Rotate looks at each page and works out the angle for you, which saves time on a scanned stack where pages came through the feeder in different directions.
