Credit Note Generator — frequently asked questions
- Why does it ask for the original invoice number and date?
- Rule 53 of the CGST Rules requires a credit note to reference the original invoice it's adjusting — it can't stand alone as an independent document.
- Does this file the credit note with the GST portal?
- No — this generates the document itself. You (or your accountant) still need to declare it in your GSTR return for it to take tax effect.
