A sale is rarely one document. It starts with a quotation, becomes a purchase order, ships against a delivery challan, is billed on an invoice, and is corrected later by a credit or debit note. These templates follow that sequence, so the details you use on one carry over naturally to the next. GST-registered businesses get the Rule 46 fields on tax invoices; freelancers and small sellers who are not registered get a clean non-GST invoice.

Common questions

Should I use a GST invoice or a simple invoice?
Use a GST invoice if your business is registered for GST and the sale is taxable. Use a simple invoice if you are not registered. If you are unsure which applies to you, confirm with an accountant before issuing invoices.
Does the GST invoice split CGST, SGST and IGST?
Yes. Choose whether the supply is within the same state or interstate, and the invoice shows CGST plus SGST for the former and IGST for the latter. One GST rate applies to the whole invoice, so for a mix of rates, generate separate invoices per rate.
Is a Documateo invoice legally valid for GST filing?
Documateo formats the document with the fields a tax invoice is expected to carry, but it does not verify your transaction, registration or tax position, and it does not certify any document as compliant. Confirm requirements for your situation with a tax professional. See the Document Generator Disclaimer.
What is the difference between a credit note and a debit note?
A credit note reduces what a customer owes on an earlier invoice, for example after a return or discount. A debit note increases it, for example after an undercharge. Both reference the original invoice.
Do I need an account, and what does it cost?
You need a free account. Free accounts can generate a limited number of documents each week across all document types (the current allowance is on the pricing page). Pro and Business have no weekly cap; each generation uses a credit from your plan.
Does Documateo store my invoice data?
Documateo does not store the content of the documents you generate, only a usage count. Logos you choose to save on a Pro plan are kept until you delete them or close your account.

These are templates you fill in with your own details. Documateo does not verify transactions or certify any document as legally valid or tax-compliant. Read the Document Generator Disclaimer.
